# Configuration

> Persistent CLI settings and environment profiles.

## `paygent config list`

Show configured values and where each came from.

```bash
paygent config list
```

## `paygent config get`

```bash
paygent config get api_url
paygent config get api_url --explain
```

`--explain` shows which layer supplied the value, which is the fastest way to understand precedence.

## `paygent config set`

```bash
paygent config set api_url https://api.withpaygent.com
paygent config set --profile local api_url http://localhost:8081
```

## `paygent config unset`

```bash
paygent config unset api_url
```

## `paygent config path`

Show every file and location the CLI reads.

```bash
paygent config path
```

## Profiles

A profile is a named set of settings. Use one to keep local development away from production data:

```bash
paygent config set --profile local api_url http://localhost:8081
paygent config set --profile local app_url http://localhost:3000
paygent login --profile local
paygent agent list --profile local
```

> **Warning**
>
> The CLI defaults to production. Configure a profile before testing anything destructive.
