Subscription Fees

Subscription fees are recurring or one-time charges that are not tied to individual usage events. Paygent supports three fee families — each can have multiple named line items on a single agent or plan.

Fee typeBillingExamples
Setup feeOne-time (first eligible invoice)Onboarding, integration, training
Platform feeRecurring (Monthly / Quarterly / Annually)Base platform access, support, bundled credits
Seat-based feeRecurring per seatPer-user licensing, team seats

Configure fees on Agents → Step 3: Pricing or on any Plan.

Multiple fees per agent

You are not limited to one setup fee, one platform fee, or one seat fee. Use Add fee to stack named line items:

Setup fees:
• Implementation $5,000 (one-time)
• Data migration $2,000 (one-time)
Platform fees:
• Base platform $299/mo
• Premium support add-on $99/mo
Seat-based fees:
• Editor seats $29/seat/mo
• Viewer seats $9/seat/mo

Each fee has an optional name that appears as the invoice line description. Unnamed fees default to “Setup Fee”, “Platform Fee”, or “Seat-Based Fee” with a numeric suffix when duplicates exist.

Setup fee

SettingDescription
PriceOne-time amount
CurrencyFee currency (defaults to org currency)
Billing timingWhen the fee is recognized relative to the billing period

Setup fees are charged once per order line when the setup-fee window first applies. Paygent deduplicates by order, agent, fee name, and invoice date — you won’t double-charge the same setup fee.

Platform fee

SettingDescription
PriceRecurring base amount
Billing frequencyMonthly, Quarterly, or Annually
Billing timingAdvance (start of period) or Arrears (end of period)
Credit benefitsOptional bundled credits per period — see Credits & Wallets

Platform fees appear on every billing cycle for active orders. Multiple platform fees invoice as separate line items.

Skip platform fee when setup is charged

Enable Skip platform fee when setup fee is charged on the same invoice when your commercial model replaces the first month’s platform fee with a setup charge (common in enterprise onboarding).

When a setup fee is invoiced in a cycle, platform fees for that cycle are skipped automatically.

Seat-based fee

SettingDescription
PricePer-seat rate (or tiered — see below)
Billing frequencyMonthly, Quarterly, or Annually
Billing typeFLAT, VOLUME, or GRADUATED
Minimum commitmentMinimum billable seats
Included usageFree seats before metering starts
TiersVolume/graduated seat pricing

Seat count is supplied on the order line when creating the order. Invoice quantity = configured seats × per-seat rate (respecting tiers and minimums).

Example — volume tiers:

SeatsPrice per seat
1–9$29
10–49$24
50+$19

Billing timing: advance vs arrears

TimingWhen fee is invoiced
Advance (default)Start of the billing period
ArrearsEnd of the billing period, after usage for that period

Set timing at the agent level (default for all fees) or per fee (overrides agent default). Arrears billing is useful when platform or seat fees should align with usage totals on the same invoice.

How fees appear on invoices

On each billing run for an active order, Paygent generates line items:

  1. Setup fees — if not yet charged for this order/agent/fee name
  2. Platform fees — unless skipped due to setup-fee rule
  3. Seat-based fees — quantity from order line seat count
  4. Activity / outcome usage — from tracked indicators
  5. External costs — from send_external_cost events
  6. Taxes — if configured on the order

Combining fee types

Most AI SaaS products use a hybrid stack:

$5,000 setup (one-time)
+ $299/mo platform
+ $29/seat/mo (10 seats = $290)
+ $0.02 per API call (activity-based)
+ 18% GST (tax on subtotal)

Configure the subscription fees on the agent or plan, activity pricing on indicators, taxes on the order, then create an order with seat count and activate it.
